I love using pan pastels. They make everything look smooth and professional. I tried using these for the first time a year ago and could not believe the results. Try it!

Charcoal butter, goes on smooth a stays on better than compressed. Applicators are a must!
I kept hearing about how great pan pastels are so I had to try some. I just got black since I am working on a B&W drawing. The first picture (left) is before I got the pan pastels, the second (right) Is with this product. I had gotten the applicators before to try with regular charcoal but hadn't tried to use them. Pan pastels work best with the applicators (handles with replaceable sponge tips), I've tried Q-tips (cotton buds) but they don't distribute the product as smoothly as the applicators. They are not cheap $7-8 per pan but a little goes a long way so it's a good investment in your artistic tools.
