First off, as far as the product itself: it works and works well. It does the job at least as well as any other I've tried.My issue? The tin that it comes in is not only miniscule, it was only half full! Now, I'm not saying that they're going anything wrong, but I wanted to make sure people knew what they were getting into. The cream is so cheap because it's just over 2 ozs. In terms of volume, I'd say it's about 4 Tbsp. That's not a lot, even though you don't need all that much for a single shave. So the value proposition is fine, but I'd rather buy a tin about 3x the size so I don't have to constantly buy more. I'm attaching a picture of it next to a quarter and a normal 4 oz container of shave soap, for scale.

Ignore the 1-star ratings mentioning this is not a shave soap. READY THE INSTRUCTIONS, is NOT a shave soap. Is a pre-shave cream, and as such, excels in softening my wiry white bristles. I've used everything, from Proraso pre-shave creams of different scents and types, several soaps, including Phoenix Artisan Accoutrement's CUBE soaps, and nothing works like this. The instructions says to wait 5 minutes for the cream to soften your beard, and I almost never wait that long. Just 3 minutes is enough to make them butter like. I for one I'm subscribing to get a tub every 3 months.

This pre-shave cream works very well. I have never used a pre-shave cream before, and I am pleasantly surprised with the results. It definitely softens up my beard and has made blade shaving more comfortable.

So recently, I started on the culture of wet shaving with the old classic double razors, mostly to be more environmentally conscious with no high expectation, although, I've read about how good it is for your skin since you won't get any irritation and you would get a good shave. I'm not gonna lie I didn't buy Vikings blade razor but I wanted to share first my experience with the whole culture behind wet shaving. The results, it was a surprise how everything I read was true mostly, I still make a few rookies mistakes, but I didn't get any irritation and shaving results were ok.Later I started to read more and more and I find out about the pre-shave ritual and I found Vikings Blade and decided to give it try, to my surprise (again!!) give me the best results so far, it helps me get a really close shave, I like that the smell is not too strong, I didn't have to use the customer service but after I got the product also receive a thanks note letting me know that they are there for anything I need, also I received the instructions on how to use it; which is great for me since it is the first time I use something like this.The only thing left for me to say it's that I'm looking forward to buying the shaving cream and the after cream.

Great product, really softens up my fairly coarse whiskers, and smells great doing it. Most of the other shaving creams and gels I have tried after applying Black Forest Pre-shave work better than they do without it (smoother shave, less nicks and irritation). The results with Cremo products have been about the same but everything else works better in conjunction with Black Forest. I have also had good luck with other products from Viking's Blade, they really do know how to make quality shave products. I find their hardware to be a better value than their ointments, as good as they are ( I really appreciate the coupon/package purchase discounts) I'll be trying more of their products soon. Don't over-apply (you might want to because it smells soo good) you'll be wasting your money as a small amount does the job. And don't blame the product for your inability to read product descriptions or instructions, information like that can really improve your life or at least mitigate disappointments. Enjoy

Received item fast but safety seal was opened and the product was above the safety seal also. I will stick with Proraso might be a few dollars more but get more of the product and smells better. I have used other Viking Blade products but this one was a fail. I am not even sure how the seal would have been broken unless resold item. The lid did not have any damage.
