This is a better fit to the batteries than the original. The batteries fit very tightly, much better than the original charger which had a pretty loose fit. At first I thought the battery didn't fit - but it does - you squeeze it into place. The original was a loose fit, and literally needing to jostle the battery within the original charger to get it to work after a while became a thing, and a really annoying thing. But this charger doesn't look like it's going to do that, because the batteries fit really tight in it.As someone else mentioned, they actually did the lights wrong, so, green in the case of this charger is power, orange is charging and orange-off means charged. Normally chargers light a green light when charging is complete, but this one turns out it's orange light instead, and uses the green light to indicate that it's plugged in.This paragraph is preemptive and hopeful but I have a feeling this charger is actually charging the batteries better because of the better contact with the contacts because of the tighter fit. I just got it, so I can't say for sure, yet, but these first two batteries I stuck in seemed like they both stayed charging for much longer than they would have in the original charger. I've always felt these batteries seemed under-powered, in fact I have several of them because of that. If it turns out it was because the original charger wasn't grabbing the contacts hard enough, all along - that would be awesome - sort-of, but kind-of not, too, because of years of missed photos because of dying batteries. It's one complaint I have about the camera, that and the super long focus/reflex time. While I do like the camera for image quality, I do not like it for speed or battery longevity, because I've missed countless photos with this Canon SX40HS over the years. I don't think I'll be able to say for sure whether this charger is really charging the batteries better or not without using the camera for some time, to see, so I'll leave this paragraph in as preemptive for now, and try and remember to update this post later.One thing that is definitely better than the original is not putting the electrical prongs right on the charger itself. Having a cord may seem more annoying at first - but having this thing for years I happen to know if you're in a house with old outlets or the outlet is horizontal and only partly supports the charger and has a loose fit - just keeping the original charger plugged in to an outlet was an issue in many cases. Having a cord for it fixes that problem.

Although the two lights are not identified, I believe I figured out the orange means charging, and when it turns off it is done. Green may mean there is power.

I could not get my batteries to charge. I bought another one and neither of the chargers I had would work. one was a Canon Charger. I bought this charger and it worked on both batteries. It is also very reasonable cost.
